Green Schools

Green Schools

St. Mary’s Primary School has been involved in the An Taisce Green Schools Programme since April, 2004.

  • We were awarded a Green Flag in 2007 for our work on Waste and Litter Management.
  • In 2009, we successfully renewed our flag by incorporating the theme of Energy.
  • In 2012, we were granted a THIRD green flag for water.

Buckle your shoes! Fasten that helmet. It’s onto the theme of TRAVEL.

Being involved in Green Schools is very worthwhile. We learn about how to take better care of our world by treating its resources with respect and by not wasting them. It also helps to save our school money. It equips us with information and skills that we can take with us into our homes and into homes when we are adults. All the little changes and savings when added up will eventually amount to significant change and savings. It’s our community, our country, our world, our planet.

Although we are young we have the power to effect real change,

one pupil at a time.

We take part in An Taisce National Spring-Clean every year. It’s a lot of work and a lot of fun… Have a look at our pictures!

National Spring-Clean

On Feb 18th and 19th, we had workshops with Mieke from An Taisce. She is helping us with the Travel Theme. She visited classes from 3rd to 6th and told us about climate change and how we can help reduce some of its impact by walking or cycling more often.

We learned a lot and Mieke said she really enjoyed her visit

We especially enjoyed meeting her penguin!!
